This design is from the bottom panel of the cross on the 8th century Aberlemno Cross-Slab in Aberlemno, Scotland. The Knotwork in this panel is formed with one continuous line which wanders apparently aimlessly across the entire panel before returning to its starting point. Knotwork symbolizes those parts of your psyche which bind you, distracts or entangles your mindyour habits, your desires, those things which you believe you are entitled to. The knotwork is a warningto point out that you are unconscious of true realitythat you see the world only through your desires and fears. Knotwork also expresses the concept that all things living are interconnected.
