The Rock of Cashel appears on the skyline, topped by the serenely beautiful Cathedral of Saint Patrick. Attached to the Cathedral is the oldest part of this magnificent complex, Cormac's Chapel. Directly outside stands the ancient 7 foot tall St. Patrick's cross that dates from the 12th century. The doorway of Cormac's Chapel is decorated with chevrons and heads of dragons and humans. The interior contains a stone sarcophagus, carved with interlacing serpents, perhaps the tomb of Cormac McCarthy, King of Munster. The design of this cross comes directly from crosses carved into the floor of the Chapel.
