Product Description
New York Public Library
1900s
The original gilded "key within a key" was designed by Victor David Brenner and executed by the prestigious jewelry firm of Black, Starr and Frost. At the formal dedication of the Library on May 23, 1911, the architect Thomas Hastings presented the key to New York City's representatives. The key provided a symbolic and tangible "unlocking of the resources" of the Central Library.
