Tektite, Meteorite Impact Specimen, 800,000 Years Old - Actual Authentic Specimen
Product Description
From our Museum Field Kit(tm) collection, Tektites are formed under extreme temperature and pressure. The only place they have been discovered is on the surface of the earth. Scientific theory suggests that when massive Meteorites impacted the earth at the right angle and speed, molten rock front the impact was blasted into outer space. The result was Tektites cooling and falling back to earth landing as far as 4000 miles from the original impact. There is no water in outer space where the Tektites formed so they are the driest mineral on earth. Average water content is just 0.005%. These Tektites may have come from an 800,000 year-old Australasian strewn field that covers an area from Australia to Southeast Asia. A 66 mile wide crater was discovered off the shore of Vietnam. NASA scientists believe this Crater is most likely the impact site for Australasian Tektites.
