From our Museum Field Kit(tm) collection. Orthoceras appeared 500 Million years ago becoming extinct during the Devonian period 385 Million years ago. The name means straight horn, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. Found Fossilizing in marine rock, especially limestone, this one was discovered in the Atlas Mountain Range in southern Morocco. They have been discovered up to 14 feet long.

Genuine Fossil of Approx 1.5" L, but as these are actual size, dimension, and color will vary. Packaged in a 2" x 3" plastic display box with foam insert and information card. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts - Not for children under 3 yrs. Adult Supervision Required.
