Egyptian mirrors always retained more or less the same shape as a flat, oval plate of polished copper or bronze often with a wooden or bone handle. Since the Middle Kingdom at least, the Sun-Disk provided a model for the mirror as in the case of this reproduction. The handle of this mirror is shaped in the form of the Goddess Isis. In the old Egyptian religion some Goddesses, usually Isis, Hathor and Mut, were presented with two mirrors as a cultic offering.
