This statue is modeled after a copy of the original discovered in the Baths of Caracalla c.1546, the original statue was from the 4th century and probably made by Lysippus. It portrays the tired champion resting after his labors; leaning on his club he holds behind his back the golden apples that ultimately will guarantee his immortality. This striking statue is cast from Carrara marble mounted on a marble base.
